Week 10: Projections + Installations

So far we’ve met the challenge of communicating our ‘perception in motion’ to an audience, using maps, comics, and video. Which brings us to the video installation…

How Should We Assess the Final Assignment?

What are good criteria for measuring the success of spatial video design?

Feedback for Video Assignment:

Mostly people did pretty well with matching the Video Submission Details…

– But plenty had the wrong frame size. ( Bad for display purposes )
– Others had unnecessary black borders ( Loses effective resolution quality, aesthetically unpleasing).
– Some had the wrong codec ( Meant file size much larger than necessary, the wrong codec could also mean bad (or no) playback in certain situations.

(See Week 6, and your video software help menu for more info on ensuring you have the right technical requirements. )

Projection Mapping Using Photoshop + After Effects

2D / Planar Mapping – Option 1: Point a projector at an object / surface, and use Photoshop to create a mask template. Use this template to create animations / compositions using After Effects.

Using a camera and photoshop to make masks, then mapping these in Resolume. + Tutorial about using photographs to align and map video onto objects )
