Copy Of The Copy

Projection design and animation commissioned for Copy of the Copy by Dr. Priya Srinivasan.

Performers were framed by a rear screen and projections on a transparent screen in front of them, with
animations covering both screens and sometimes travelling between them.
Performed at the Dancehouse, Carlton, 30 Aug 2025

Copy of the Copy (2025) is a deft layering of so-called classical and contemporary dance, Carnatic music, polyrhythmic vocal percussion, performance lecture, video projection and audience participation. ” – Performance Review

“Blending dance, live and recorded sound, digital interactive projection, and participatory cooking, Copy of the Copy responds to the invisibility of Indian bodies in Western artistic canons and uncovers lost connections between pioneering women dancers whose stories have long been silenced. Held by Srinivasan’s exquisite storytelling and the ensemble of stunning live music, Copy of the Copy brings together Indian, Sri Lankan, and Anglo-European artists in a shared ritual of remembrance, resistance, and reimagining.” – Dancehouse

Animated overlays for hand gesture, and a ‘cascade of rose particles’.

Using light silhouettes to reveal projector image: at rehearsal in Dandenong, and Dancehouse, Carlton.

Animating a history of Indian dancers and musicians across both screens.
