Example video inspirations:
- a video link to an example animation or video which showcases similar techniques to what you’ll be exploring for your assignment.
- a sentence explaining which techniques in the video you’re seeking to explore.
Sharni: Came Back Haunted, Director: David Lynch, For: NIN
The bold graphics of overlaying of photographs and illustrations with digital elements over the top as a method of content generation. The pulsating, strobing energy throughout as rhythm/timing. Also the colour pallette (+ inverted to highlight voids etc) and gritty/dark tones due to our specific client
Naomi: the visual album ODDSAC by animal collective (2nd half of the film clip) (and also)
I am interested in combining real footage with abstracted visuals. I like how in the above videos it is kind of disturbing because it doesn’t really make sense and is moving quite quickly.
Henry: Movie: HES, From: BeatmaniaIIDX 9th style
I enjoy the overlay of two moving and contrasting visuals, and would like to explore the concept of futuristic vibes within my animation.
Bree: I’m drawn to low-fi pixelated motion graphics in these examples. I would like to further explore this geometric abstraction in my project as I feel this style could be strategically utilized by the client in way finding, and could also be implemented in my future architectural drawings.
Sonja: Although it is filmed and not illustrated I could imagine a video of liquid forms overlaid with structures other than water to look like that.
Clara: I particularly like the start of this projection mapping as it shows the atmosphere of the city of Tokyo, and tells a story through the movement of light which suggests life and the passing of time.
Cat: I am drawn to transforming geometric shapes and would like to explore this idea while also incorporating overlays of abstract texture and pattern similar to that seen in this work by Sonia Falcone.
Sophie: What I am interested is the blending modes/ collaged shots used, the reversed and repeated footage and also the cut out animated flags.
This video as well as it demonstrates the collaged aesthetic that I am interested in really well at the end around 3:39. It also features repetitive and reversed footage.
Chantelle: My concept that I would like to explore is human emotion, not only in the video but also how the audience would feel, with also the use of geometric shapes involved.
Agi: My example project is the Infinity Room which is a cube with mirrors on the floor and ceiling. 4 laser projectors beam various algorithmical animations that envelop the room walls creating an illusory space. I’m thinking to do something similar in a small box.
Katelin: I am interested in manipulating the audiences perception, playing on the ideas of imaginary and real through the techniques of animation, overlaying and light and shadow techniques, all focussing on an overall theme of disturb. An example of the things I’m looking at can be seen in Peter Campus’ works.
Ellyn: MIYANAGA Akira inspires me to look at layering as a way of distorting space and maybe creating a new transitional environment from a series of fragmented videos
